IMPORTANT! This project requires a six-monthly and fixed commitment, with the need to sign a Volunteer Agreement and deliver a Criminal Record (since we are working with children). The schedules for the year 2024-25 are not yet known, but we are already gathering a group of interested volunteers.

ACTIVITIES There is already a small agro-forest in the school, which we will take care of, maintain and even perhaps expand. We will also develop other activities related to the themes of sustainability, urban agriculture, nutrition, etc. according to the interests of volunteers and students.

OBJECTIVE The main objective of this project--like the other Serve the City projects--is to create relationships and invest in people (in this case the school's students). The productivity of the garden will always be of secondary importance, with the learning, involvement and enthusiasm of the students being essential. The children and young people of EB 2,3 in Marvila hear negative messages from everywhere. Many of them end up accepting that they have no future, that they are not good at school, and that it is not worth making an effort. But we don't believe that! Through the Community Gardens, we use the themes of Urban Agriculture and sustainability to arouse interest in learning. And we invest time in our relationships with the children and young people at school, to encourage, motivate and convince them that they can have a dignified future.

* Recognized moral and human suitability (Criminal Record required);

* Sense of responsibility and commitment;

* Taste for working with children/young people and dynamizing school communities:

* Interest in agriculture, nutrition, sustainable development or similar;

* Inspiring, dynamic, creativity and adaptability; * Ability to work in a team;

* Capacity for empathy and cultural sensitivity.

WHO WE ARE Serve the City is a volunteer network, "inspired by Jesus, open to all", which seeks to mobilize people of all conditions and convictions for an active, responsible and proximity citizenship. We participate in building bridges between people, institutions and territories, through volunteer actions, in order to make the City more just, fraternal and supportive.

We go to meet socially fragile people, working on the themes of exclusion, the homeless person, the isolated elderly, children and young people in situations of greater vulnerability, the immigrant or refugee person, etc., with the aim of motivating change through affective relationships.
