A Universidade Internacional para a Terceira Idade nasce em 1986 destinando-se essencialmente a corporizar e institucionalizar o apoio à Terceira Idade a que o casal dos fundadores se vinha a dedicar desde os anos 70. A UITI está reconhecida pelo Ministério da Educação e é uma instituição pioneira a nível mundial das chamadas universidades séniores, pretendendo contribuir para evitar o isolamento e promover a inserção social da Terceira Idade, criando, no centro de Lisboa, espaços culturais de convívio, aprendizagem, dinamização cultural e ocupação de tempos livres, destinados primordialmente a reformados. The International University for the Third Age was born in 1986, essentially aiming to embody and institutionalize the support for the Third Age that the founding couple had been dedicating since the 1970s. UITI is recognized by the Ministry of Education and is a pioneer institution in the world of the so-called senior universities, aiming to contribute to avoid isolation and promote the social insertion of the Third Age, creating, in the center of Lisbon, cultural spaces of conviviality, learning, cultural dynamism and occupation of free time, primarily intended for pensioners.
