Institution's Mission
Focinhos & Bigodes - Associação Zoófila para Proteção de Animais Abandonados e Ambiente is a non-profit entity, made up of volunteers for whom the attention to abandoned, abused or stray dogs is also a work in favor of the community. At the moment, Focinhos & Bigodes only has a kennel, which is located in Lisbon at Rua Padre Carlos dos Santos, in S. Domingos de Benfica (behind the Furnas Church), near the Zoo. However, some of its members also accompany some colonies of stray cats. Focinhos & Bigodes was created with the sole objective of minimizing the suffering of animals at risk, providing them with veterinary care, food, affection and, when possible, shelter in a home. It has its own facilities, but limited in terms of space, and the number of dogs installed already far exceeds the capacity of the enclosure. All dogs protected by Focinhos & Bigodes are vaccinated and dewormed and the are sterilized. This implies a very great effort because Focinhos & Bigodes does not have its own resources, being dependent on the goodwill of civil society. The ultimate goal of this small institution is to send animals for responsible adoption and/or give them a more dignified old age, with adequate food and veterinary care, as well as attention and love. Only in this way will it be possible to give opportunity to others in difficulty.
