Institution's Mission

The Setúbal International Music Festival (FIMS) was created in 2010/11 as a partnership between Setúbal City Council and the British foundation Helen Hamlyn Trust, an institution that supports education, culture and social inclusion with a focus especially directed to the young community.<br<brIn 2012, a cultural association was created to legally represent the Festival, independent from the City Council and the Helen Hamlyn Trust, in it, the community and local artistic and social partnerships are represented.<br<brThe starting point of the FMS, was a process of collaboration with various public and private institutions/ associations in the city, for the realization of educational and participatory projects, aimed mainly at children and young people in the region: “workshops” on percussion techniques and creative song writing take place during the several months preceding each edition of the Festival, which is usually held at the end of May.<br<brPublic presentations/performances during the course of the Festival, involve concerts by world-class visiting artists, both national and foreign, alongside performances by various local children and youth groups. The initial workshop activity, led by Portuguese trainers/musicians, has been maintained each year and now attracts over 1,500 young participants from across the community.<br<brhe Setúbal International Music Festival (FIMS) was created in 2010/11 as a partnership between Setúbal City Council and the British foundation Helen Hamlyn Trust, an institution that supports education, culture and social inclusion with a focus especially directed to the young community.<br<brIn 2012, a cultural association was created to legally represent the Festival, independent from the City Council and the Helen Hamlyn Trust, in it, the community and local artistic and social partnerships are represented.<br<brThe starting point of the FMS, was a process of collaboration with various public and private institutions/ associations in the city, for the realization of educational and participatory projects, aimed mainly at children and young people in the region: “workshops” on percussion techniques and creative song writing take place during the several months preceding each edition of the Festival, which is usually held at the end of May.<br<brPublic presentations/performances during the course of the Festival, involve concerts by world-class visiting artists, both national and foreign, alongside performances by various local children and youth groups.
