How does volunteering through SabMais work?
Local:
Mindelo, São Vicente Island – Cape Verde
Volunteering:
Volunteering takes place at our tutoring center, at the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents, in the center of the city of Mindelo. It will consist of monitoring the studies of local secondary school students, through explanations of the subjects taught, such as Portuguese, Mathematics and Physics. With this support, we aim for them to achieve better results and thus be able to apply for tuition fee funding grants, following their dream of entering university, without financial constraints.
Requirements:
Minimum age of 18 years
Completed secondary education
Minimum availability of 1 month
Availability for pre-departure training
Mastery of the subjects to be taught
Taste and motivation to teach
Our center welcomes volunteers during the school term: from September to July.

At the moment we have vacancies for November 2024.
Costs:
Flights: Each volunteer will be in charge of bearing the costs of flights to the island of São Vicente and the respective associated costs:
- Passport (Passport valid for at least 6 months on the date of return is required)
- Visa (Since May 2023, citizens of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries are exempt from visas for stays of up to 90 days, and it is only necessary to register for entry online, and pay the airport security fee – €30)
- Traveler Consultation
- Travel Health Insurance (optional, but recommended)
Accommodation: The monthly cost of accommodation is €150, including rent and water, electricity and gas expenses
Food: Each volunteer will be responsible for their meals, and can choose local restaurants and cafes or cook at the accommodation.
