JRS PORTUGAL
We are an international social organization present in about 50 countries around the world. Our mission is to "Accompany, Serve and Defend" refugees, forcibly displaced persons and all migrants in situations of particular vulnerability.

JRS is looking for dedicated volunteers to join our team and play a vital role in the well-being of our immigrant clients in detention. If you have a background in sports, dance, socio-cultural animation, cultural mediation, arts, social, education, or are an expert in manual areas such as furniture repair and restoration, and gardening, this is the ideal opportunity to apply your skills and passions!
The Project
This volunteering is part of a social project aimed at immigrant users in detention. We are committed to creating a welcoming environment by providing activities that promote the physical, emotional, and cultural well-being of our clients.
Volunteer Profile
Preferred Training Area:
• Sports and dance; Socio-cultural animation; Cultural mediation; Arts; Social; Education; Manual areas related to furniture repair and restoration; gardening.
Languages:
• Fluency in different languages (English required; the more languages, the better).
Expected Activities:
• Physical exercise, dance, sports/team games, recreational-pedagogical and occupational activities (painting, drawing, board games, etc.); non-formal Portuguese classes; gardening without tools; restoration of antique furniture (woodwork and painting); other activities requested by the users, in line with the unit's operating rules and approved by the JRS social technician.

• Understanding and respect for the rules and adaptability.
• Creativity to adapt activities to the conditions and tastes of different groups of users.
• Close cooperation with the JRS technician for the development of activities.
Compromise:
• Flexibility to carry out regular visits, to be arranged according to the availability of each volunteer.
Volunteering Expectations:
• Cultivate and maintain a good relationship with users and entities present.
• Understand the delicate social and cultural situation of users.
• Proactivity in proposing regular and inclusive activities.
• To meet the tastes and needs of users, aiming at a good use of free time and the reduction of the 'stress' felt.
